| Black and White Friesian type cattle were originally imported into the UK from North Holland during the 1800's. The breed has experienced massive growth between the 1950's and the 1980's.
The modern Friesian is pre-dominantly a grazing animal able to survive on both low lying and upland grassland. Cows are long living and are able to give high lifetime yields of quality milk. As an added bonus male animals are regarded as producers of high quality lean meat giving then a high slaughter value. |

Due to the PTA base level changes of May 2005, Friesians are now treated as a separate breed from the Holsteins enabling improved progeny testing and breeding plans.
