| The Montbeliarde comes from the high plateaux of the Jura mountain range in France and can therefore survive in harsh climates.
The Montbeliarde is regarded as a dual-purpose breed. The milk produced is high in protein and 50% of females now have the Kappa Casein 'B' gene, which is advantageous for cheese makers. Montbeliardes are more fertile and have lower cell counts than many other breeds. The breed also has the added bonus of having a heavy carcass with good conformation. |
